Hatteras Island has different choices along the Pamlico Sound: the National Park Service names Haulover and Salvo for kiteboarding and windsurfing, while REAL Watersports lists wingfoil lessons and rental from its separate Waves base. Neither school address nor shallow soundside beach is a hydrofoil-depth or launch-permission guarantee.

Access & safety
- Kite restrictions are area-specific
- The 2026 park compendium bars flying kites, including kiteboarding, within 150 feet of overhead power lines and within resource closures. Haulover, Kite Point, and some soundside ramps are specifically named in the power-line warning. Follow current closures and posted separation rules. - Soundside shallows are not hydrofoil clearance
- NPS describes shallow water by Haulover shore. That helps explain its family and windsurf setting but does not establish mast clearance, currents, rescue coverage, or wingfoil use at the public access. - Choose a named soundside access or booked operator water
- Haulover is near Buxton; Salvo is farther north; REAL is in Waves. NPS lists public parking and facilities at the first two, while the school supplies its own booking point. Their locations should not be collapsed into one generic Hatteras launch.
