Alaçatı / Çeşme

The Çeşme peninsula contains two distinct wind-sports settings: Alaçatı’s sheltered, shallow school bay around Çark Beach and the more exposed Pırlanta Beach kitesurf area near Çiftlikköy. Windsurfing, kitesurfing, and wingfoiling share a mature service and club scene, but not the same water or access model.

Conditions & water

Alaçatı Bay is the sheltered, shallow-water setting
The municipality describes a V-shaped bay with clear, shallow water and a prevailing northerly wind. Myga describes the bay as receiving the peninsula’s characteristic north wind without the open-Aegean waves, which explains its concentration of windsurf and wingfoil teaching. Sources: Çeşme Municipality · surf centres, Myga Surf City · windsurf, kitesurf, and wingfoil.
•••
Pırlanta is the exposed wind-and-wave setting
Pırlanta faces a different coast. Municipal guidance describes persistent strong wind, waves, and an approximately 250-metre shallow sandy shelf; the reviewed field guide also distinguishes it from the flatter Alaçatı school bay. Sources: Çeşme Municipality · surf centres, SURF · Alaçatı freeride spot guide (2024).
•••
Summer wind commonly builds through the day
The reviewed field guide describes the summer Meltemi as lighter in the morning and strengthening through the afternoon as local heating accelerates the flow. The municipality also identifies Meltem, Lodos, Poyraz, and Gerence as distinct winds affecting the peninsula. Sources: SURF · Alaçatı freeride spot guide (2024), Çeşme Municipality · surf centres.
•••
Windsurf season and school-bay context
GoTürkiye identifies May through September as the main windsurf visitor period for Alaçatı and describes a calm, shallow school-bay setting. This is seasonal destination guidance, with no daily wind guarantee; its shallow-water description does not establish foil clearance or describe Pırlanta. How map references work

A point can mark a useful access, business, or approximate area reference. It does not establish a legal riding-zone boundary, guaranteed launch, safe depth, or current access permission.

Access & safety

Different coasts, different water
Çark and Pırlanta are on different sides of the peninsula. The first is a sheltered, shallow school bay; the second is an exposed beach associated with stronger wind, waves, and kitesurfing. Suitability at one does not transfer automatically to the other. Sources: Çeşme Municipality · surf centres, Visit İzmir · Çeşme–Alaçatı.
•••
Shallows and the shipping fairway
The Alaçatı Bay standing area includes very shallow patches, while a marked fairway serves the marina. Foil users need sufficient depth beyond the teaching shallows, and all riders must keep the working channel clear. Sources: SURF · Alaçatı freeride spot guide (2024).
•••
Published sport labels are not interchangeable
The municipality presents Pırlanta as a kitesurf and windsurf beach, while the 2024 field guide reported kite-only zoning at that time. None of the current public sources reviewed establishes Pırlanta as a wingfoil area. Sources: Çeşme Municipality · surf centres, SURF · Alaçatı freeride spot guide (2024).

Plan the trip

Where to stay
Alaçatı village is the restaurant and accommodation base, while the main school strip sits south near the marina and Çark Beach. Pırlanta lies on the other side of the peninsula, so the two riding areas do not function as one walkable waterfront base. •••
Getting around
Municipal routes connect Çeşme, Ilıca, and Alaçatı, but GoTürkiye recommends a car for reaching multiple peninsula beaches. Sources: Çeşme Municipality · transport routes, GoTürkiye · Çeşme travel guide.
•••
Pırlanta beach access and facilities
Visit İzmir places the turn to Pırlanta after Çiftlikköy, separately from Altınkum. The public-beach operator lists a day-use beach with parking, toilets, showers, a café, and food service. These visitor facilities are separate from the kite school and do not mark a sports launch. Sources: Visit İzmir · Pırlanta Plajı, Turaş · Çeşme public beach facilities, Active Surf · Alaçatı, Urla, and Pırlanta operations.
•••
An active racing and club scene
The Turkish Sailing Federation reports that Alaçatı Windfest 2026 brought 134 youth windsurf racers from 15 countries to the Çağla Kubat Windsurf Academy. The federation’s 2026 national windsurf and foil programme also included an Alaçatı stop hosted through Myga’s club. Sources: Turkish Sailing Federation · Alaçatı Windfest 2026, Turkish Sailing Federation · 2026 windsurf and foil league.
•••
Windsurf lessons and kite rental have different requirements
ASPC publishes windsurf lessons from beginner to advanced and windsurf rental. It also lists kite lessons and supervised kite rental, for which riders must already ride independently upwind. Its year-round operation is not evidence of equally suitable wind throughout the year. Sources: ASPC · windsurf and kite instruction and rental · checked 16 October 2026.
